Specialized string engineer

Foto Camilla van der Kooij

Sound Engineer Camilla van der Kooij has a unique background: She studied violin at Codarts University of Arts, Applied Physics (Acoustics) at Delft University of Technology and Art of Sound (music production and audio engineering) at the Conservatory of The Hague, Netherlands.

This combination provides her with the knowledge of how a violin, string quartet or orchestra should sound, how to use the acoustics of a room in the advantage of the recording, and knowing how to use the right gear to achieve the desired sound.

Having broad experience in live-performing with all kinds of bands and artists around the world as well as recording strings and writing string arrangements for many albums, she wants to raise the standard for string-sound as high as possible.

Camilla co-founded the Red Limo String Quartet, a string quartet specialized in improvising and pop music.

Camilla is the 'No Sugar'-part of production duo 'Sugar No Sugar', a music production and recording duo for all kinds of musicians and media (www.sugarnosugar.nl).

String Players who know about Pop Music

Choosing to work with the StringLab means choosing to work with highly experienced string players who know how to play pop music. No classical timing issues, they'll understand what you're asking for. They are actually fun to work with, because they love pop music as much as you do! A jazz or rock solo on a violin? It's all possible!

String Orchestra

A complete string orchestra is the right choise for a full blending string sound. Configuration can be done at your request - we'll be happy to advise you how many violins, violas, celli and/or double basses will suit your music best.

String Quartet

Choose a string quartet for an intimate string sound with the original stringquartet setup: first violin, second violin, viola, cello. This setup can also be used for one or two dubs to make a string orchestra sound, ideal for smaller budgets.

String Solos

For your solo string parts.

Other

Other ensembles are possible of course, just send us any request you have.

About The Stringlab

The StringLab was founded by sound engineer, music producer and violinist Camilla van der Kooij in 2013.

During her 10 years as professional violinist and engineer in pop music she often experienced frustration caused by the communication gap between engineers and string players. While these two really seemed to come from different planets sometimes, she realized that she could help to get these frustrations out of the world. That's why she started the StringLab.

With the StringLab you will get highly experienced string players who know how to play pop music. No classical timing issues, they'll understand what you're asking for. They are actually fun to work with, because they love pop music as much as you do! A jazz or rock solo on a violin? I's all possible.

Look around this website to see some of the possibilities, and above all, feel free to contact us for your special requests!
